The 24th of October was a very exciting day for all involved with the Irish Survey of Student Engagement and the Irish Survey of Student Engagement for Postgraduate Research Students as we launched our national reports and also our rebrand to

The launch happened as part of the Student Success Symposium, organised by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and the Higher Education Authority, and we could not have chosen a better event to collaborate with. aims to amplify the student voice, and the student voices were heard loud and clear, through the results of the surveys and also from the students who shared some of their thoughts and experience with the 160-strong crowd as part of the event.

Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor, a strong supporter of, gave the opening address. This was followed by a diverse schedule of events, the highlight of which for many was the Student Voices panel, led by Kevin McStravock of USI.

As part of the launch, Dr Siobhán Nic Fhlannchadha ( Project Manager) presented some results of the national reports 2019 and a feature on international students. Michelle Byrne, USI Vice President for Campaigns, presented the rebrand. Both were very well received.

While the Minister regrettably could not stay as long as she had hoped to, these are her comments about the national reports 2019...

This morning we also saw the launch of the Irish Survey of Student engagement national report, and its equivalent for Postgraduate research Students. I am pleased that the findings were very positive around the international student experience here. We need to work though on student to student interaction around engagement and making friends locally. I would welcome responses on this issue from today’s event. It is something I will discuss further with institutions. Taken together, all these reports and surveys give us an excellent snapshot of what our students feel about the higher education they receive.
Mary Mitchell O'Connor, Minister of State for Higher Education
