If you don't find the answer to your question below please contact info@studentsurvey.ie.

StudentSurvey.ie is aimed at first year undergraduate, final year undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and runs annually (spring 2023 is when it will run next). PGR StudentSurvey.ie is a national survey for postgraduate research students and runs every second year (spring 2023 is when it will run next). Invitations to participate are sent to those students only, and the survey is only open for a specific three-week period during February – March. Each institution chooses the most appropriate three-week timeframe to open the survey taking account of local events. Click here for to see what dates the survey is running in your institution.

You can access the survey from EITHER:

a) This website or

b) by responding to your invitation email.

We want to hear from all first year, final year undergraduate and taught postgraduate students in StudentSurvey.ie and all research postgraduate students in PGR StudentSurvey.ie. We want you to tell us about your experience of higher education and of your institution. Then we want to use your feedback to help institutions to identify areas of good practice and areas that may need improvement to enhance the student experience. Have your say now and help build a better education system for everyone.

Each survey is designed to help your institution hear from its students. Results from each institution also form part of a national project to engage with students and to hear your experiences of higher education. Institutions and national policy-makers will collect, analyse and report the results of the survey to inform future planning. Feedback will be given by your institution and at national level. This is your opportunity to help your own institution and to influence the future experience of students in higher education.

Your responses are entirely confidential.

The survey is conducted by an external survey company that has been contracted by the Higher Education Authority in order to conduct the survey. The company currently contracted to conduct the survey is a company called i-graduate. Your institution sends securely a small amount of non-sensitive demographic information from your student record to the survey company. This information includes whether you are studying full-time or part-time, what field of study you are programme is in, and your country of domicile (you can see the full list in the Privacy Statement here). However, the technical system is designed so that you cannot be identified from your responses. You will get an email with a link to the survey questions (though the survey will also be accessible from this website). Your email address will be used ONLY to match your responses to the non-sensitive demographic information mentioned already. Responses, linked to this information, are gathered nationally but all information that could be used to identify individual students is removed before the results are returned to each institution. Read more about confidentiality here

Your responses are confidential and do not directly affect your current studies. The process is designed to maintain confidentiality while allowing analysis of results at national level. For example, the responses from full-time and part-time students may be different; the responses from students studying on an Arts programme may be different from students studying on an Engineering programme. No student will be directly affected by their participation in this survey. However, it is expected that institutions will act on overall survey responses over time in order to provide a better student experience.

The national project has the full support of the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) and local Students’ Unions. USI is one of the organisations which co-sponsor and run the project.

One set of questions is used for all taught students completing StudentSurvey.ie and a different set of questions is used for all postgraduate research students taking PGR StudentSurvey.ie.

PGR StudentSurvey.ie is a separate survey from StudentSurvey.ie, and is dedicated to postgraduate research students completing a Masters by Research or PhD. PGR StudentSurvey.ie runs on a biennial survey cycle, which means it runs every second year. The survey will be open for PGR students to take in spring 2023.
